Seacock body
Housing the isolation mechanism.
The seacock body is the valve housing that contains the ball valve mechanism. It threads onto the male spigot of the skin fitting inboard of the backing nut and is secured against rotation.
Material selection is critical. The body must be compatible with the skin fitting โ mismatched metals in a salt water environment will accelerate galvanic corrosion of the less noble metal. Silicon bronze, naval bronze, and Marelon (glass-filled nylon composite) are the accepted materials. Marelon is fully immune to galvanic corrosion, making it the preferred choice in mixed-metal installations.
The body provides the mounting points for the lever handle and houses the valve seats, stem packing, and gland nut. Any sign of dezincification โ a pinkish discolouration on bronze โ is a mandatory replacement indicator for the entire seacock assembly.
